GAUGE

Privacy policy

Effective [DATE] · Version 1

The short version. GAUGE has no account and no advertising. Your wardrobe and watchlist stay on your device. We count anonymous totals — like how many items are scored and which fabrics come up most — with no ID attached, and you can switch that off. If you subscribe, Apple takes the payment and our subscription provider keeps a record so your subscription works. The web version can also use analytics cookies, but only if you say yes.

1. Who we are

GAUGE is run by Gauge Clo Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17321287), registered office 66 Paul Street, London, EC2A 4NA ("we", "us"). We are the data controller for the personal data described here. We are registered with the Information Commissioner's Office, registration number [ICO REGISTRATION NUMBER].

2. This policy covers

3. What stays on your device

Your wardrobe, watchlist, scores, notes, currency and other preferences are stored only on your device (in the app's local storage, or your browser's storage for the web app). We never receive them. They leave your device only if you choose to export or share them. You can erase all of it at any time from Settings → Delete all data, or by deleting the app.

4. Anonymous usage counts (app and web app)

To understand how GAUGE is used and make it better, the app and the web app send simple usage counts to our own server when you use certain features. Each count contains only:

Counts carry no identifier of any kind — no user, device, advertising or session ID — and no exact prices, item names, notes or anything you type. Our server does not record the IP address or other details of the device that sent them, and stores each count only with the date. Finished days are combined into daily totals and the individual counts are deleted. They are used only to improve GAUGE and are not shared with anyone else.

UK law (the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, as amended by the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025) allows this kind of statistical counting without asking first, provided we tell you and make it easy to object. Usage counts are on by default; switch them off at any time in Settings → Privacy, and no further counts are sent from that device. Because the counts can't be linked to anyone, we don't treat them as personal data; to the extent any are, our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in improving GAUGE.

5. The iPhone app

Apart from the usage counts above, the app contains no analytics, advertising or tracking tools, and does not ask you to sign in.

Subscriptions

If you buy a GAUGE subscription, the payment is handled by Apple under Apple's own terms and privacy policy. We never see your name, email address or card details.

We use RevenueCat, Inc. to manage subscriptions on our behalf. To confirm and restore your subscription, RevenueCat processes:

Why: to provide the subscription you paid for. Lawful basis: performance of a contract (UK GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)). RevenueCat acts as our processor and is based in the United States; see section 9 on international transfers.

6. Analytics cookies (web app only, with consent)

The web app works fully without analytics cookies. When you first open it we ask whether you're happy for us to use them. Nothing loads unless you tap Accept, and you can change your mind at any time in Settings → Privacy & cookies.

If you accept, we also use Google Analytics 4, loaded through Google Tag Manager, to understand how people move through the web app. It records:

We never send names, email addresses, notes, wardrobe contents or anything else you type, other than the unrated brand names described above. We have switched off Google signals and advertising features, and we do not use the data for advertising or profiling. Lawful basis: your consent (UK GDPR Art. 6(1)(a) and PECR). Google acts as our processor. Analytics data is kept for 2 months.

Cookie details are on our cookie policy.

7. This website and hosting

This website uses no analytics and sets no cookies. It, the web app and our usage-count server are hosted by Netlify, Inc., whose infrastructure logs IP addresses and request details for security and to keep the service running; we don't use those logs for analytics. Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in running a secure service.

8. When you email us

If you email us — for support, or to challenge a brand rating — we use your email address and message to reply and to deal with your request. We keep this correspondence for up to 12 months after the matter is closed, unless we need it longer for a legal reason. Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in answering you and keeping our ratings accurate.

9. International transfers

RevenueCat, Google and Netlify may process data in the United States. Where they do, the transfer is protected by the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, where the provider is certified, or by the UK International Data Transfer Addendum to the EU standard contractual clauses.

10. Sharing

We don't sell personal data or share it for marketing. We share it only with the service providers named above, and where the law requires it.

11. Children

GAUGE is not aimed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. The web app's analytics only runs with consent.

12. Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to access your personal data, have it corrected or erased, restrict or object to its use, move it to another service, and withdraw consent at any time (without affecting anything done before). Because GAUGE has no accounts and analytics is pseudonymous, we often can't link data to you — but email us and we'll do what we can.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, please tell us first. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or 0303 123 1113.

13. Changes

If we change this policy we'll update the date at the top. If a change affects what we collect, we'll tell you in the app and ask again where consent is needed.
